Honoring the Life and Legacy of Mrs. “Ginny” Rogers
It is with profound respect and admiration that we acknowledge the passing of Mrs. Rogers, a cherished retired teacher who dedicated over 40 years to educating and inspiring “friends” at Erie Day School. Ginny peacefully passed away at her home in Erie, PA this past Spring on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, after a courageous five-year battle with ALS.
Her teaching career began as a student teacher at Woodrow Wilson Middle School, where she was profoundly influenced by her mentor, Margaret Miles. After refining her skills at St. Luke School, she had the honor of teaching at her alma mater, MPS, before finding her long-term teaching home at Erie Day School in 1983. Ginny's tenure at Erie Day School spanned nearly four decades, concluding in 2021.
Throughout her academic career, Ginny's passion for the English language and literature was evident in every lesson she taught. From grammar and vocabulary to the classics of Shakespeare, Steinbeck, Orwell, and Sophocles, she instilled a deep appreciation for literature in her students. Her legacy includes not just the knowledge she imparted but also the unforgettable experiences she created, such as organizing student trips to the Shaw and Stratford Festivals, historic Boston, and New York City for the National Greek Theatre Company's production of Oedipus. Ginny also played a significant role in supervising Student Council, school dances, fundraisers, and more, extending her influence far beyond the classroom.
Celebrating a Life Well-Lived
